FIVE H'S DESCRIBING CHARACTER I. Introduction A. We have used this method along to help us in remembering lessons by beginning five topics with the same letter. B. We want to consider five words that begin with H. C. These things are all characteristics of the character of a person who is accepted of God--we need to exhibit all five. II. Five H's in the character of a Christian A. Harmless... 1. (Matt 10:16) Sent forth "harmless as doves" 2. (Phil 2:15) Blameless and harmless... 3. (Heb 7:26) Jesus is Holy, Harmless... 4. We come to do NO HARM, only good... a) There is only GOOD WILL in the hearts of true Christians b) There is never intent to harm or do harm c) To harm such a one is to harm one's own interest. 5. Are we truly HARMLESS? a) Or do we harbor resentment, hatreds, wrong attitudes b) Do we sometimes DO PEOPLE WRONG? c) Much evil has been done IN THE NAME OF RELIGION B. Honest... 1. (Luk 8:15) Honest and good heart--good ground in parable of the sower. 2. (Acts 6:3) Men of honest report. 3. (Rom 12:17) Provide things honest in the sight of all men (2Co 8:21) Providing for honest things... 4. (2Co 13:7) Do that which is honest... 5. (Phil 4:8) Think on these things (honest) 6. (1Pe 2:12) Conversation HONEST among the Gentiles... 7. Honest has many senses... a) Honest--Willing to face the truth, even if it hurts b) Honest--Responsible in handling money, time, people, etc. c) Honest--Above reproach in any matter d) Honest--Reliable in what one says and does to always tell the truth and do the right things. C. Humble... 1. Humble yourself... a) (Matt 18:4) As a little child... b) (1Pe 5:6) Under God's mighty hand c) (Matt 23:12) To be exalted (Jam 4:10) d) (1Pe 5:5) Clothed with humility e) (Acts 20:19) Attitude in your mind... 2. A man can be humbled by circumstances (2Co 12:21) 3. Some humility may not glorify God (Col 2:18,23) 4. Our humility should be submission to God's will and truth a) Most religious errors come from lack of humility on the part of SOMEONE b) A humble person is powerful, because they can control THEMSELVES and not let pride overcome them c) Without humility we can't please God. (Jam 4:6) D. Holy... 1. Holy--set apart, sacred, consecrated 2. (1Co 7:34) Holy in body and spirit 3. (Eph 1:4) Planned for saved ones to be HOLY... 4. (Eph 5:27) The church should be holy and without blemish 5. (1Pe 1:15-16) Be ye holy... 6. (2Pe 3:11) Holy conversation... 7. (Rev 22:11) He that is holy, let him be holy still. 8. We can only be made holy by God consecrating us 9. There is an obligation of a Holy thing to be DEVOTED TO GOD because that's its character. E. Happy... 1. (John 13:17) ...happy are ye if you do them... 2. (Acts 26:2) Paul was happy to be able to preach before Agrippa 3. (Rom 14:22) Happy if we have a good conscience. 4. (Jam 5:11) We count them HAPPY which endure... 5. (1Pe 3:14) Happy to suffer for righteousness' sake (1Pe 4:14) Happy if reproached for the name of Christ. 6. The Christian can have the ONLY TRULY HAPPY LIFE! III. Conclusion A. From these five H's we have learned a lot about the Christian's life. 1. Harmless 2. Honest 3. Humble 4. Holy 5. Happy B.
