Exhortations in Hebrews Hebrews is a "word of exhortation". Within it are many serious warnings addressed to Christians. the writer is letting them know that we cannot serve God carelessly. Warnings in Haggai and Malachi still apply today. Throughout this book, there are not just warnings. If that was all there was, Hebrews could become a very depressing book. The writer continually reminds them what they are involved in. The heart of Christianity is Christ and a large part of Hebrews is spent teaching of the greatness of Christ and showing how He is superior to all things. Chp. 1 - Christ is equal to Jehovah and is greater than the angels. Chp. 2 - Christ became man. 3:1 - Consider Jesus... Example of the Jews continues through chp 4. Exhortation: 10:19-24 "Since therefore..." 10:32-39 Chp. 11 - Examples of the faithful in the past Exhortation: 12:1-3 "Therefore..." 12:5-10 - They have forgotten the chastening of the Lord. Exhortation: 12:11-13 The purpose of the chastening of the Lord. 13:1-10 General instructions on how they should be living. Exhortation: 13:11-16 Because of what Christ has done for us...
