We ADMITTED we were powerless over < >, that our lives had become unmanageable. (Hit bottom). (Just left DENIAL) (first step toward freedom). Nobody really cares to admit defeat. Keywords: God is more powerful than us. Humility/ humble. Scriptures: "you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free". "all have sinned". Move toward repentance. 2. BELIEVE that God is greater than ourselves and can restore us to sanity (peace). We no longer have to "go through life on our own strength and wisdom". Move away from indifference to "take a stand, make a committment". Move away from prejudice to love everyone. Move away from negative to positive thinking. Move away from self-righteousness and replace with God's righteousness. Keywords: Believe, Open mind, Faith, review our relationship to God. 3. DECIDED to turn our will and lives over to the care of God. Action. Letting God work through us. Trying to know God's will. Depending on God instead of ourselves. Keywords: Will, Depend. 4. EXAMINE ourselves. A lifetype practice. 5. ADMITTED to God, ourselves and to another person the exact nature of our wrongs/shortcomings/sins. Will receive forgiveness and forgive others. Will bring us closer to God. 6. Humbly ask God to remove defects of character. A lifetime job. 7. Humbly ask God to remove our shortcomings/sins. Keywords: strength from weaknesses. 8. List persons we have harmed, and be willing to make amends to them all. Avoid judgments, try to forgive. Keywords: our relationship with others, Love others. 9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. Be responsible. 10. Continued personal inventory and admitted when we were wrong. 11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our relationship with God, praying for knowledge of His will for us and power to carry that out. 12. Having gotten closer to God through the above steps, we try to carry this message to and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
